The kitchen backsplash is an easy way to add some personal style into your home along with a functional purpose. You can pick something simple but elegant (as in our Los Gatos project, photo to the right) or a design that’s more ornate and vibrant. How do you pick the backsplash that’s right for your overall kitchen design?
Kitchen Backsplash Trends
As we shared in a post earlier this year, subway tile is a popular backsplash trend right now. It fits into almost any kitchen design well, and the color white can make the room classic and timeless for decades. Other popular trends right now include using stainless steel, tile mosaics and more.
Kitchen Backsplash Materials
A backsplash can be made from an extremely wide variety of materials. The simple, elegant design in our Los Gatos project above is made from tile, a great way to balance creativity with practicality. Ceramic and porcelain tile are both materials that are extremely easy to clean and come in a wide variety of shapes and shades. They’re also paired nicely with glass tile, another material available in a lot of designs and colors, so whatever design you dream up can be made into reality.
Other common backsplash materials include:
Natural stone, for those that want a rustic, eco-friendly look to their kitchen design
Tin, which is good for high temperatures and easy cleaning
Wood, although you need to be careful about expansion and contraction and it can be damaged more easily
Stainless steel, which was mentioned as a popular trend above
